When the battery is so discharged that the charger won’t recognize the connection.
This just worked on my car battery. I used a power supply and a pair of leads.
Handy tip…Lucky I still have my old trusty charger from 1876 Ha Ha…
Clean that contacts mate and have a couple of beers
Zig I need a Tag from you to put on my bus….go watch my vid…
You can always tell a mechanic that has been locked out of a car before……lol roll the window down.
I smashed my smart charger against the wall!
You definitely use your brains, like others say I like the unregulated chargers for lead acid batteries, ours at least doesn't go crazy high voltage, she won't go higher than 15v when fully charged but she can pump out some amps but after around 14.5 the amps really fall away which suits me., revived a few dead batteries with that charger, 12months later they're still kicking with around 85% amp hours
You need an old ancient charger. Runs power no matter what 😀
That's a nice trick to get a charger to work on a dead battery.
Top tip mate.
You're a genuis. Great tip mate. I got an old style charger(huge thing) from a garage sale for $3. It doesn't pull stunts like that lol. cheers mate.
Imteresting, glad i still have my old charger
Decent trick Zig. I recently bought a SCA 7 stage 6 amp. The battery was at 1 volt. Quite happy with that charger. Avagoodweekend mate
ha, funny trick man…I had no idea they needed a threshold to get cooking. Neat.I've been through alot of chargers…and it is kinda odd…I keep going back to our old handmade one after all these years it still gives the juice….but ya have to watch it, no auto-dial down on the delivery.
we are need a charge now n then… or a zap
What a coincidence my battery went flat after ten days on my car too. I have a dash cam on all the time that must of done it. I had a smart charger too but it was only good for maintaining a battery.
i use an old dinosaur of a charger made by sears and roebuck 6 and 12 volt. works for 25 years ive had it. i take battery out even dead flat charge for 8 hours. good to go.
I have one of those "smart" chargers, but I still use my old regular one at times too,
There ya go Zig, as simple as that. Funny thing about batteries. I've had some last many years, possibly a couple of top ups but nothing much. Yet others have expired 2 days after the 2 year warranty runs out. Now, I just go to the breakers and get another for £15. Not worth messing about.
Try to buy, if you can, battery chargers that have an old style voltage meter with a needle… Combined with the option of boost charge and trickle.
Smart trick Zig. Last time I had that problem I used jumper cables and a spare car battery to get it going. This way saves your back. Cheers
Ta Zig, good trick to know.
Did the battery test ok after a full charge or was it buggered up from sitting. I've had them come back but not for long – easy 200 degrees F. under the bonnet in the summer mate so how long does a new battery last – 3 years max. LOL
Saved by the torch!
Yeah those projecta chargers are crap that's the issue.
Useful tip thanks 👍
Good tip. She's got an old fashioned window roller downer. Kids today wouldn't know what to do to roll down the window.
Another charging episode!!! Keep Charging it Up!!!
