In today’s video i am going to show you how to make a 12 volt battery charger at home. Basically to make a charger of 12 volt lead acid battery you need to provide 13.4 volt as input in 12 volt battery and one think you need to keep in mind that when you want to charge the 12 volt battery then connect positive pin of 13.4 volt source in positive pin of battery.
Just follow the video and you can easily make a 12 volt battery charger at home.
I use my laptop charger (19 Volt, 4.74 Amp) as source so i use a buck converter (DC to DC Step down) to get 13.4 volt.
If you have Lower voltage source then use boost converter (DC to DC Step Up) to reach 13.4 volt.

Jan 2013 Update: I bought a Craftsman Dual Chemistry (Ni-cad, Li-Ion) charger and it will run off of all of these inverters.)
I’ve been needing a way to charge my cordless Craftsman tools out in the boonies. It turns out the charger is pretty picky about the 110 vac power it runs off of. I’ve got 4 chargers and multiple batteries and every one of them acts the same way. I tried a Vector 400 watt inverter (not in the video) and a Chicago Electric (Harbor Freight) inverter and they wouldn’t work at all. I purchased some Pure Sine inverters thinking one of them would work. In the end, this Craftsman charger only worked correctly when plugged into the Xantrex inverter or a wall socket. The Samlex came close but I’m not sure it’s going to be good on the charger to run it drawing twice the watts it should. Let me know if any of you have had similar experiences and what inverter(s) worked for you. One last comment, as you see in the video, all of the inverters ran a CFL with no issues. All but the Wagan will run my old Emerson 19″ color TV that draws 82 watts at start up and 42-38 watts after it’s up and running. The TV would try to come on but for some reason, never would. I suspect something wasn’t quite right with the Wagan inverter I had and lucky for me, boatandrvaccessories made it right.
