All right, today on this 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter, we’re going to install part number CTEK56158. This is a CTEK Multi US 3300 12-Volt Universal Battery Charger. Now, first step to install, we need to get access to the battery. So we’re going to have to remove the floor liner. There’ll be a small piece of trim panel there to remove first, by taking out three screws. This is by the threshold.

After that part was removed, we can go ahead and remove the floor liner. Then we have access to our panel that covers the top of our battery. We’ll go ahead and loosen up the screws and remove the cover. Now we have access to our battery. Next, we need to go ahead and install our ends for our cable. First, we’ll go ahead and start with the end that goes to the battery.

This end has a plug-in that goes to the rest of the charger and the two ring terminals. To install our two ring terminals, we’ll go ahead and loosen up the clamps on the battery. Now the hardware on our clamps won’t come off all the way. So we’re actually going to take our eyelets and modify them. We’ll go ahead and cut out the centers so we can slide them over our clamps. Once we get them slid over the end of the clamp, we’ll go ahead and tighten it back down.

Now to do this, we’ll go ahead and do our positive side first, and then move on to our negative side. Once our cabling is installed, we’ll go ahead and set it to the side for now. Next, we’ll go ahead and drill a hole in the battery case to get us access to the outside. In this case, we’ll be using a 7/8″ hole saw. Our hole is drilled out. Now we can go ahead and put the CTEK charger underneath the hood temporarily, and then run a wire to our hole.

We’ll go ahead and route it down, and up to the battery box, and we’ll push it in. Next, we’ll go ahead and put some loom material around the wire. This will help take up the gap. The part number we’ll be using is 459075-1. We’ll go ahead and put over our wire, and then seal it up with some electric tape on both ends, to help keep any water from splashing into the battery compartment. Then we’ll plug the two ends together that go to the battery to the rest of the charger, and then we’ll run our wire back through our hole, and then use some silicon sealant to help seal up the hole. Now we can reapply the panel over the top of our battery. Once it’s in place, we can screw it back down. Then we can put the floor liner back over the panel, and screw a trim piece back down as well. Next, we’ll go ahead and take our charger, and go ahead and mount it to the inside edge of the fender well. We’ll take self tapping screws to attach it. The screws we’ll be using is part number 101131802. Once the charger is secured, we’ll go ahead and zip tie our wires to make sure they’re safe and secure and out of the way. Basically, we’re pretty close to the steering components, so we just want to stay as far away is possible. The last thing we have is our cord that plugs into the wall. In this case, the vast majority of the cord is going to stay inside the vehicle, underneath the hood. So we’ll use a rubber band to help take up our access, and we just simply drape it over another cable right behind the headlight. That’ll keep it from moving anywhere, and we’ll have enough left over to pull out and close the hood on it. And then we can go ahead and put our extension cord onto it, and charge the battery. Before we close the hood, it’s a good idea to select the mode you need for battery charging. And with that, that’ll finish it for our install of part number CTEK56158 from CTEK, on our 2013 Mercedes Benz Sprinter van. .

The new SKIL drill is nice and compact with many features that one would expect in a high-end DIY drill.  In many ways, this drill feels like the construction grade drills, just a bit smaller.  The grip and feel are balanced making it easy to use.  We put this drill through its paces while working on our Summit Racing Can-Am Maverick X3 XRS modifications.  We did not wish for more power or fun across anything the drill could not do in plastic or metal during these installations.  When we moved over to construction type tasks, we found the drills limitations fairly fast.  most of the tests we threw at it were based on much larger drills.  Overall, we found that most jobs could easily be done in construction, but on low speed.  As a DIY drill, this will allow the user to complete tasks safely with a smaller drill, just not as fast.

Over and over the SKIL drill proved that it has a place in the DIY market.  The 350-inch pounds of torque allowed us to complete all the tasks we had lined up for the day and the compact size was easy to use.  This drill driver came in a kit with a single 2.0 Ah battery and the PWRJump charger.  It can be found on Amazon for $73 and comes with a 5-year limited warranty.  While looking, we found we could buy a small brushless DEWALT for $99.  That brings us to a question if this tool is priced right.  The warranty is better than the DEWALT, but will people choose the new SKIL or the DEWALT if they saw those prices.  Time will tell if this brand will again make a mark on the DIY market!
