WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW :
Quick/Fast chargers will fill your battery with juice in less time than the standard charger that probably came with your phone. That’s what makes them different and why so many people decide to use them over their standard charger. A Faster charging time and therefore a shorter wait for a full battery.
Your phone includes a built-in regulator to prevent pumping too much power into the battery and frying it. So, how fast your phone can charge is limited by what its internal regulators allow. This of course is affected by the charger your using to charge your smartphone. For example, Your charger, may put out 2.0 amps at 3V but a typical USB 2.0 port will charge at 0.5 amps. So a USB port will charge it more slowly than the charger that came with your device. Even without branded “quick chargers”, some chargers can fill your battery faster than others.
The charge controller in your smartphone protects against dangerous spikes in current. This controller chip regulates the overall flow of electricity into and out of the battery. Lithium-ion controllers define the current (in amps) at which the battery charges by measuring the battery’s cell current and voltage, and then adjusting the current flowing in. Some use a DC to DC converter to change the input voltage, and fancier integrated circuits adjust the resistance between the charger input and the battery terminal to ramp the current flow up or down.
Now that we have the basics down, let’s talk a bit about how fast charging works.
Many USB 3.1/USB C devices take advantage of the USB Power Delivery (USB-PD) specification, which has a maximum power output of 20V/5A (100W). Smartphones don’t regularly draw that much power, so therefore manufacturers commonly use a lower amperage (like 3A).
Fast charging standards like Qualcomm’s Quick Charge and Samsung’s Adaptive Fast Charging purposely exceed the USB spec’s voltage parameters, that’s why your phone is able to recharge in minutes, rather than hours.
There are also a many promising quick charge standards such as Apple’s Quick Charge, Samsung’s Quick Charge, Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 1.0-4.0,Oppo’s Super VOOC Flash Charge, OnePlus Dash Charging and Huawei SuperCharge, which all run on the same concept as the rest, Just with varying charging speeds.
One thing to keep in mind though is that with quick charging more heat is generated during the charging process. The more power you push through a device, the more stress it puts on a battery and the more heat it will eventually generate. While Quick Charge devices are built to be safe, they can still get quite hot.

I’ve been looking for a battery bank I could use with my 15″ MacBook Pro however most brands only charge between 18-30W which is too little juice. However, I found a 45W battery bank and wanted to share my test results with you in case you were looking to extend the battery life of your Macs.

Usually I get 2-4 hours battery life on my 2018 MacBook Pro depending on how heavy I push it. To get longer battery life I tend to always disable Turbo Boost which makes it run slightly slower but doubles the battery life.
One thing to note about these Macs is that when Turbo Boost is being used the battery drains by 0.2% per minute even with the Official Apple 87W charger is plugged in – make sure you plug it directly into the laptop and not via a USB-C adapter as it drains a lot more through one of those – yes even the official Apple USB-C adapters.
With one of these 45W battery banks plugged in the internal laptop battery still drains by 0.9% per minute when being maxed out but if you’re just using apps normally it does indeed still manage to charge the Mac. For example I had Final Cut playing back a video with the iOS simulator and YouTube open at maximum brightness and it was charging at 0.3% per minute. Which is great.
They are a bit expensive, but they seem to work as described. Something to check out is their new 60W PD power bank – they are a little bigger in size but they’d be even more suited for a higher spec’d 15″ than the 45W.

Q: I’ve got both an iPad and an iPhone that share the same connector, but their power adapters are different sizes and have different wattage ratings. I travel a lot and would prefer not to take multiple adapters along. Can I use the higher-wattage adapter on both devices?
A: Short answer: Yes, you can. And if you want a faster charge, we encourage it. Apple explicitly approves of using its chargers across all devices that accept Lightning cables. That’s because modern electronics have systems to ensure they draw the appropriate amount of power — enough to charge quickly, but not too much that it’ll damage the device. At least not immediately.
First, the good news. Anecdotally (and with confirmation from Apple), iOS devices charge much, much more quickly with a higher-watt wall brick. If you have an iPad Pro, and you charge it with the 29-watt MacBook USB-C charger, it’ll fuel up in half the time compared to the iPad’s included 12-watt charger. The difference between either of those chargers and the 5-watt chargerthat comes with an iPhone will be just as dramatic. That’s because the difference between the iPhone and iPad adapters is the rated amperage. An iPad charge brick is rated to handle 2.1 amps, while the smaller iPhone charger is rated for just 1 amp.
But the amperage rating is only a measure of the charger’s maximum capability. The actual amperage is determined by the load (i.e., the iPad or iPhone). According to Steve Sandler, founder and chief technical officer of AEi Systems, an electronics analysis company, modern battery-powered electronics have a lot of complexity between the charger and the battery, including battery-charging circuits within the device and battery-protection circuits in the lithium-ion battery itself. These circuits are designed to manage the flow of electricity to the battery, and if the circuits inside the iPhone were designed to tolerate 1 amp, but are routinely exposed to 2 amps, that could stress the system over time.
“Even though you may not instantaneously say, ‘Wow, I just destroyed my battery!’ you may limit its life over the long term,” Sandler says, “but you wouldn’t know for a year or more.”
Our advice: Since Apple claims compatibility between the iPad charger and iPhone, pay for AppleCare (it’s worth it for lots of reasons) and charge your devices with the biggest wall chargers you have. If your battery degrades severely after the first year, make Apple give you a new one.
