Macquarie Shopping Centre Electric Car Charger is tricky to find

There are two ChargePoint Type 1 J1772 chargers located at the Macquarie Shopping Centre carpark. These chargers are difficult to reach as they are ‘hidden’ behind the valet parking area. This video shows you how to get to these chargers (without having to pay for valet).

NRMA Electric Car Charging Network (Oct 2018 Update)

The NRMA is rolling out 40 electric car charging locations across NSW and ACT as part of its Social Dividend Reinvestment Strategy. The plan is set to cost the NRMA $10 million dollars and will account for 95% of road trips taken by NSW and ACT motorists. Each charger will be spaced at most 150km apart on major roadways. The latest location to go online is Mittagong, located at the Mittagong RSL Club carpark. All NRMA chargers are supplied by Australian company Tritium Veefil who have also supplied charging networks across Europe, USA and locally in Australia. Tritium chargers are rapid DC chargers using either ChaDeMo or CCS2.

ChargePoint Express 250: Bolt EV 150 A DCFC Session

I was finally able to log a 150 A session on the ChargePoint Express 250 station at ChargePoint Headquarters. The session went mostly as expected; however, the first step down from 150 A didn’t occur until 54% battery. Also, because this charger is limited to 150 A (the Bolt EV’s maximum charging current), I still wasn’t able to confirm whether the Bolt EV can draw additional power for battery conditioning and climate control when more than 150 A is available from the charger.

Superchargers — when you’re on a road trip or looking for the fastest way to charge your Tesla this is it. Note you can lose speed as others arrive and charge near you.

Urban Superchargers — next fastest way to charge your Tesla. Dedicated and stable power regardless of who joins near you.

Destination Chargers — found at hotels, shopping centers, and more; these provide a free way to charge at a decent rate while you’re doing things you would normally be doing. Note there may be an expense to park and/or sometimes they are restricted to valet parking only.

ChargePoint — a great charging resource found at shopping centers, restaurants, and a lot more. Make sure to download the app and setup your account and always remember to bring your J1772 adapter (it came with your Tesla)!

PlugShare — not to make it sound like a last resort, because it isn’t, this is an invaluable resource to finding charging options wherever you are. Make sure to read the descriptions well as some chargers may not be compatible with your car.

Home Charging — your Tesla comes with a Universal Mobile Connector (UMC) and that combined with the 240V connector (also included) will give your Model 3 a charging speed of ~30 miles per hour. You will want to hire an electrician and have them install a Nema 14-50 outlet. Costs vary by location and job conditions and can run anywhere from $200-2,000 so plan accordingly. Nothing beats waking up to a “full tank” every morning though. Here are instructions for your electrician to follow — https://www.tesla.com/sites/default/files/pdfs/installation-guides/NEMA_14-50_installation_guide_NA_US_2017.pdf
