have the turbine connected to a shunt charge controller so when the battery gets to 14.50 volts the relay dumps the load to the light bulb, then when the battery goes down to 13.60 it will start to charge again.

Lion Energy Safari UT Lithium Battery Review (Part 2 – Installation)

*Update* I beefed up the battery box mod seen in this video. See in this new video –

In this video, I detail the installation of my new 3 Lion Energy Safari UT 100AH 12V lithium batteries.

*Fair Disclosure* I received the Safari UT batteries free of charge from Lion Energy in exchange for a review. However, I’m not sponsored by Lion Energy and received no monetary compensation for the videos. Opinions are my own.

First, I show how I charge the battery using my PD9260CV InteliPower charge converter. The new batteries come only partially charged due to shipping regulations.

I needed to charge each to 100% before I could wire them together as a parallel bank. The PD9260 with manual boost mode of 14.4VDC did the job.

Next, after screwing down my Century Plastics battery box, I install the three new Safari UT batteries inside. For wiring, I was able to reuse the 2/0 cabling from my old lead acid 4 battery bank.

I used the foam packaging from the new batteries as insulation and shims to keep the batteries in place and then used a ratchet strap to snug them down.

Finally, I show how I set up my Trimetric Monitor and Bogart Solar Charge Controller combination to properly charge the new lithium battery bank.

Battery Charger Restoration Part 3

How To Baby Your Batteries For Maximum Life Part 2: Understanding the Stages of Charging

Today we continue our series by discussing the Stage of battery charging and the time it takes to go through the stages. The key thing is that you realize that the Absorption Stage may take 4 hours to get to 80% full, then another 3 hours to get to 90% full and another 2 hours to get to 100% full, Most people aren’t aware it takes that long and are never bringing their batteries up to 100%, and so their batteries die early. Because it takes so long to fully charge your batteries when using a low-power source like solar, it’ far better to use both solar and the car’s alternator–they work together beautifully! I also recommend a ratio of 2 to 1 of watts of solar panels to amp hours of battery so that on cloudy days, or in the short days of winter you have enough to fully charge your batteries.

Laptop charger repair (part 1)

A unfinished project, but I will creat a future video that completes this project.

This battery has been on this charger for 3 full days. It was not possible to record all of that time. Before you purchase this charger, watch this video. I also was in contact with a rep from optima, who told me if the battery has been sitting for a period (unknown time) of time that this charger will not work. I just removed this battery, and three others from my vehicles and tried to charge each of them for more then 6 hours. None of them will hold a charge. Personally this product, and possibly the other products from optima will not work as described. Both reps I emailed gave me reasons that were not covered in their companies youtube video reasons for my batteries not to hold a charge. None of this was disclosed prior to purchasing this charger.
